An activist from South Africa, Ntsiki Mazwai, posted a video on X. She said that since many Zimbabweans are coming to South Africa, she asked what would happen if Zimbabwe joined South Africa and became one of its provinces. She added that if this happened, the focus would be on developing Harare, Bulawayo, and other cities as part of South Africa.
Why is Hakainde Hichilema doing these crazy things? Some of us supported him believing he was a progressive leader, yet he is now behaving like the proverbial African power-hungry despot, surrounded by noisy, unquestioning bootlicking cadres. This is the clearest sign yet that Hichilema has completely lost the plot. When an entire Catholic Bishops’ Conference, one of the most respected moral authorities in Zambia, prepares to lead protests against your constitutional changes, it means the country’s alarm bells are ringing. A leader who came in on the promise of restoring democracy cannot suddenly behave like a man trying to bend the constitution to his will. This is how African democracies collapse through these quiet amendments, loud bootlickers, and a president who mistakes power for wisdom. When the Church steps in, it means citizens have run out of places to appeal to. Hichilema is playing with fire, and Zambia’s stability is too important for this kind of reckless political experimentation.

This is really sad and tragic. Limpopo, one of South Africa’s nine provinces, generates 8,754 megawatts. Zimbabwe, a whole country, celebrates an improvement in its electricity generation capacity to a total of 1,456 megawatts. So sad! According to the 2022 South African Census, Limpopo Province has a population of 6,572,720 people. Zimbabwe has a population of 15,178,979, according to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) census, also held in 2022. The contrast highlights a real disparity in infrastructure and governance between a single South African province and an entire country. Limpopo’s population is approximately 43.3% of Zimbabwe’s total population. When we say these things, which are backed by empirical evidence, we are called Western puppets. The “Western puppet” tag used to attack anyone stating empirical facts reflects a common tactic in authoritarian cultures, where criticism, even when evidence-based, is dismissed as foreign-influenced. It assumes that Africans cannot think logically for themselves. It is actually an extension of colonial propaganda that denigrates ordinary Africans for wanting a better life for themselves and future generations.
