I never imagined that my journey as a young Ugandan coffee farmer and agronomist would one day be featured in The New York Times @nytimes one of the greatest newspapers in the world , Yet there I am , sharing how I use @SunbirdAI AI’s Sunflower tool to make better agricultural decisions by translating foreign languages into local languages like Luganda, lukonzo and others . That moment reminded me that the future of farming is no longer defined by who owns the most land but by who is willing to embrace technology. It also reinforced something I’ve believed for a long time: the next generation of billion-dollar farmers will be those who learn to work with technology especially Artificial Intelligence. AI is no longer a luxury reserved for large corporations or software engineers. It is becoming an everyday tool that can help farmers make better decisions, reduce losses, improve productivity, and build more resilient businesses. This article marks the beginning of a series where I’ll be exploring the role of Artificial Intelligence in agriculture, sharing practical experiences, lessons and opportunities that every farmer, agripreneur and young professional should know. In my next article, I’ll take a deeper dive into how AI is already being used in farming across Uganda, the tools available today and how farmers can begin using them to improve productivity and profitability. As young farmers, we have a choice. We can either watch technology transform agriculture from a distance or we can become the generation that leads that transformation. The opportunities are already here from AI-powered advisory tools and climate predictions to digital traceability and market intelligence. Those who embrace these innovations today will have a significant advantage tomorrow. I hope more young people stop seeing farming as “traditional” and start seeing it as one of the most exciting industries to innovate in. Agriculture needs young minds that are willing to experiment, learn and use every available tool to solve real problems. And slowly we shall preach the coffee gospel in all ways we can .
