The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honourable Prof. dr. Amon Murwira, today, received the Letters of Introduction from the new Resident Representative of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to Zimbabwe, Mr. Kopano Benjamin Masilo. In welcoming Mr. Masilo to Zimbabwe, Minister Murwira commended the long-standing, robust cooperation that has existed between the Government of Zimbabwe and the IFRC since the establishment of the organization's Harare office in 1981. He expressed gratitude to the IFRC for its support through humanitarian assistance and disaster risk reduction programmes, food security initiatives and public health emergency responses, including critical interventions during major national crises such as Cyclone Idai, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ongoing repatriation and reintegration of Zimbabwean from South Africa. Professor Murwira assured the incoming Resident Representative of the Government's continued dedication to implementing measures to enhance social security to uplift Zimbabwean citizens. In response, Mr. Masilo extended his congratulations to the Government of Zimbabwe on its milestone election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2027–2028 term. He reaffirmed that the IFRC—working closely with its local partner, the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRCS)—remains fully committed to advancing the country's humanitarian cause. He thanked the Government for its trust, noting that this seamless partnership allowed the IFRC to swiftly deliver essential relief to flood victims in Beitbridge and Chiredzi earlier in 2026, as well as immediate aid to returning citizens at the Beitbridge Border Post. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is one of the world’s largest humanitarian networks. It spans 191-member National Societies—including Zimbabwe—and leverages a global network of over 16 million community-based volunteers to support vulnerable populations during crises.

In a major step toward expanding regional air connectivity, the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) and the Government of Zimbabwe held high-level talks today to accelerate the implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM). The discussions took place during a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Hon. Prof. dr. Amon Murwira, by AFCAC Director for Air Transport, Mr. Getachew Alemayehu. The meeting focused on the SAATM Pilot Implementation Project (PIP), a flagship initiative under the African Union’s (AU) Agenda 2063. The project aims to fully liberalize air transport across the continent, driving the seamless mobility of people and cargo to spur economic growth. Hon. Prof. Murwira expressed gratitude to AFCAC for bringing this vital continental engagement to Zimbabwe. He emphasized that the nation’s participation is firmly anchored in Section 12(2) of the Zimbabwean Constitution, which outlines the country's framework for international cooperation. "SAATM is a vital enabler of economic diplomacy," Minister Murwira stated, noting that the initiative creates measurable economic benefits. "Improved air connectivity directly translates to lower travel costs, expanded tourism, enhanced cargo movement, increased foreign direct investment, and job creation—all essential for the dignity and prosperity of African societies." He added that Zimbabwe remains deeply committed to advancing the continent's aviation integration agenda, a critical vehicle for realizing the long-standing goals of the Yamoussoukro Declaration. Mr. Alemayehu commended Zimbabwe for its thrust on economic diplomacy and business integration. He urged the Government to continue prioritizing civil aviation as a strategic pillar for growth, specifically highlighting the AU Free Movement Protocol, of which Zimbabwe is a signatory. Mr. Alemayehu also praised Zimbabwe’s rising global profile, pointing to several recent international awards that have recognized the country as one of the world's premier travel destinations. The AFCAC delegation's visit comes shortly after Cabinet announced that Zimbabwe is now ready to launch direct flights connecting Harare and London. The visit signals robust regional and continental confidence in the country's operating environment, serving as evidence that Zimbabwe’s ongoing engagement and re-engagement policy is delivering results.

This state-of-the-art facility houses a biodiesel factory, a soap factory, and a cooking oil refinery. During the visit, I unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the official opening of this industrial hub. From Classrooms to Industries, the Mutoko Bioeconomy Industrial Park exemplifies the successful translation of research from Zimbabwe’s universities and tertiary institutions into thriving commercial industries. By focusing on value addition and beneficiation of our local biological resources, we are creating sustainable wealth for our communities, enhancing national food security, generating employment opportunities for our youth, and driving inclusive economic growth across the nation. Furthermore, we are strengthening domestic production and reducing reliance on imports, thereby boosting Zimbabwe’s competitiveness in both regional and international markets. During the United Nations High Level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies, which ended yesterday, the Director General of Zimbabwe’s National Counter-Terrorism Centre, Major General F.R. Mutizhe, expressed Zimbabwe’s concerns regarding the evolving global terrorism threat landscape which is affecting the territorial integrity of several Member States. Zimbabwe called for enhanced cooperation to counter the activities of terrorist groups, their means of travel and communication. The 2026 edition of the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair was officially opened by Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania. The visit provided an opportunity to engage with exhibitors and strategic institutions that are critical to advancing Zimbabwe's trade and export agenda. During the tour, the Minister visited the @ZimTradeAlerts exhibition stand, which is showcasing Zimbabwe's export-ready products and promotes the country's industrial and manufacturing capabilities. He also engaged with the Tanzania Ports Authority, which is developing dry ports and logistics infrastructure to facilitate efficient cargo movement for neighbouring landlocked countries. Enhanced access to Tanzania's ports and logistics network presents significant opportunities for Zimbabwe to reduce transport costs, improve supply chain efficiency, and expand exports to regional and international markets through the Indian Ocean corridor. This collaboration supports Zimbabwe's trade diversification strategy, strengthens regional value chains, and advances economic integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The Government of Zimbabwe, under the leadership of H.E. President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, remains committed to pursuing strategic partnerships that unlock new market access opportunities and enhance the competitiveness of Zimbabwean exports.

Today, the Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Albert Ranganai Chimbindi held an exit meeting with the officials from the Secretariat of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) who have been facilitating the Minustry's Workshop on Technical Assistance on the Implementation of a Decision Monitoring and Management System. The training provided capacity building for Ministry officials to monitor and review progress in the implementation of Memoranda of Understanding/Agreement that are concluded between Zimbabwe and bilateral partners during Joint Permanent Commissions on Cooperation and Bi-National Commissions, as well as Treaties, Decisions and Resolutions at multilateral level. Speaking to the trainers, Ambassador Chimbindi expressed gratitude for offering their expertise, further noting, "the system you have helped set up can empower us as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to assist Government in accounting for decisions taken, and what each Ministry, Department and Agency is doing to execute the decision Government committed to". He reiterated that the workshop itself is, among others, a benefit of Zimbabwe being a member of regional , continental and international organizations, and the country is reaping from the placement of its nationals in international organizations. He applauded the team for their dedication to serve their motherland and extended the message of gratitude to the SADC Secretariat for granting the request for training. Overall, the system is expected to work as an information repository for Government, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade coordinating the monitoring and review process. It also ensures strengthened accountability, improved coordination and timely and accurate information to support evidence-based decision making.

The meeting centered on how these key institutions can synergise their efforts to aggressively and strategically position Zimbabwe as a competitive hub for trade, investment, industry and innovation, leveraging on the country's Diplomatic Missions. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Chimbindi to translate the Foreign Relations Doctrine, underscored that the Doctrine of Zimbabwe's Foreign Relations and International Cooperation must be the guiding principle for all collaborations, anchored firmly on the reality of Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo/Ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo,where the responsibility to develop the nation rests on Zimbabweans, and the need to ensure that Zimbabwe is Open for Business moves past being a slogan to an active reality. This requires that the value chain of Zimbabwe's economic outreach is aligned from policy formulation and investment promotion to local production and trade facilitation to seamlessly capture every global trade and investment opportunity.

The modern diplomatic complex comprises the Chancery, three residential housing blocks capable of accommodating two families each, and the Ambassador's Official Residence located nearby. Together, these facilities provide a conducive environment for effective diplomacy, consular services, trade and investment promotion, and staff welfare. The development reflects the Second Republic's commitment to building a modern and professional foreign service, advancing the "Zimbabwe is Open for Business" policy, and strengthening Zimbabwe's engagement with Nigeria, ECOWAS, and the wider West African region. The development forms part of the Second Republic's commitment to modernising Zimbabwe's diplomatic, physical, and digital infrastructure across its Missions abroad through the construction of state-of-the-art facilities that enhance the delivery of diplomatic and consular services, promote economic diplomacy, and project a positive national image.
