His Excellency Atiku Abubakar paid a condolence visit to the family of His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi on the demise of his beloved mother. I am just receiving further directives from my boss on our return from the condolence visit. What an affectionate leader in HE AA. Nigerians are about to see the best of this great land when HE AA is sworn in as the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 29 May 2027 by the grace of God and by the will of the Nigerian people.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the former President's decision to accuse him of bribing the late Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na'Abba to impeach him was not only reckless but fundamentally unfair to a man who is no longer alive to defend his name. "As Africans, we understand the solemn duty of speaking truthfully about the dead. It is therefore deeply troubling that former President Obasanjo has chosen this moment to allege that I gave the late Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na'Abba a bribe to impeach him. "If this allegation were true, why did he never make it while Rt. Hon. Na'Abba was alive? Why wait until the only man who could confirm or refute the claim has departed this world? It's not like I'm surprised—I actually predicted this. What I didn't expect was for H.E. @PeterObi to reveal his hand and true intentions regarding 2031 this early. My advice to H.E. @KwankwasoRM is to convene a meeting of the NDC leadership where the party clearly reiterate its position again as it appears it's initial announcement was explicit enough for Mr. Peter Obi: 2027 is zoned to the South, while 2031 is zoned to the North. Peter Obi should also be asked to publicly commit to respecting that zoning arrangement. If Mr. Obi is unwilling to make that commitment, then Mr. Kwankwaso should have every reason to walk away from the alliance, as the risk of betrayal would be obvious. Peter Obi has never been a consistent proponent of zoning. In my view, his support for it in 2027 is purely driven by political expediency. In 2015, he backed former President Goodluck Jonathan's re-election bid, which, if successful, would have kept the presidency in the South for nine (9) consecutive years and 17 years in total, while the North would have held the office for only three (3) years at that point.

15 JULY 2026 PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARY HABILA: ADC DEMANDS INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION -SAYS TINUBU RUNNING GOVERNMENT OF COVER-UPS The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is deeply disturbed by the unresolved circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Ms. Mary Habila, who reportedly died within the residence of the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi. Every Nigerian life matters. But when a citizen dies in the home of a serving cabinet minister, the matter immediately transcends private tragedy and becomes a question of public accountability. The only acceptable response in a constitutional democracy is a thorough, transparent and independent investigation that commands public confidence. The explanations offered so far have done little to answer the questions that continue to trouble Nigerians. What exactly was the nature of Ms. Habila's official assignment? Why was she residing in the Minister's private residence? What were the precise circumstances leading to her death? What have investigators established so far? These are legitimate questions that can only be answered by facts and evidence, not assurances. We therefore call for an independent investigation that is completely removed from the control or influence of the Executive. This inquiry must include a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of Ms Habila’s death and a public report of its findings. This is the only way to ensure that Justice is done; and it is seen to be done. Anything less will only deepen public suspicion and further erode confidence in our institutions. This case must also be viewed against an increasingly disturbing pattern in this scandal-prone government of APC under President Bola Tinubu. Time and again, whenever serious allegations arise around members of the administration, the default instinct of government is not to facilitate independent scrutiny but to build a wall of political protection around its own. Appointees of President Tinubu sit pretty in their offices even as mind-blowing scandals swirl around them. The Tinubu administration appears more eager to defend reputations than to establish facts and submit to accountability. Official statements are deployed laden with presumptions and bias even before independent inquiries have even begun. It has now become impossible to ignore the impression that this administration now operates a system of scandal insurance for its senior officials, and proximity to power appears to guarantee protection from accountability. But this is one scandal too many. This latest scandal is not just about financial crime, it is about the death of a young lady who reportedly died in the house of a senior Minister of this government. The least that should be expected is that the Minister, namely Senator David Umahi, should immediately step aside from office pending the conclusion of an independent investigation. Even in a blood-soaked country, human life remains sacrosanct. Therefore, a minister of Federal Republic cannot have a murder-related scandal hanging on his neck and still carry on with business as usual. If President Bola Ahmed Tinubu refuses to insist on this elementary principle, then Nigerians will be left with only one conclusion: that his administration has become a Cabinet of Cover-ups, where political convenience consistently takes precedence over transparency and accountability. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wishes to draw the attention of the media and the general public to false reports claiming that a group led by Mr. Nafiu Bala Gombe has uploaded the names of a presidential candidate and other nominees to the INEC nomination portal. The claim is a blatant lie. And it is quite easy to verify why. INEC does not issue nomination portal access or nomination codes to a leadership it does not recognise. Secondly, the Commission will not issue two codes to the same party. Otherwise, every impostor would simply upload names to the portal and proclaim themselves the authentic leadership of a political party. That is plainly not how the law or the Commission's processes work. The question, therefore, is straightforward: where is the evidence of this purported upload by a group of individuals not known by law or the electoral body? We are also, by this statement, formally drawing the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to what appears to be the forgery and unauthorised use of documents purportedly emanating from the Commission in a manner capable of creating confusion and undermining public confidence in its integrity and reputation as Nigeria's electoral umpire. We trust that the Commission will investigate this matter and take the necessary steps to correct this blatant misrepresentation.

I welcome the Federal Government’s decision to suspend the proposed increase in WAEC and NECO registration fees. This reversal is a victory for millions of Nigerian parents, students, civil society organisations, and all citizens who refused to remain silent in the face of an unjust policy. The government announced the suspension after widespread criticism of the proposed increase. This decision vindicates the concerns I expressed when I warned that pricing public examinations beyond the reach of ordinary Nigerians would deepen educational inequality, worsen the out-of-school children crisis, and deny countless brilliant but indigent students the opportunity to pursue higher education. However, the question remains: why must this government always wait for public outrage before correcting policies that should never have been conceived in the first place? Governing is not a laboratory for reckless experimentation. Sound governments consult before they decide, not after Nigerians have been subjected to needless anxiety and uncertainty. It is becoming a disturbing pattern. This administration announces harsh policies with little evidence of meaningful consultation, only to retreat when confronted by overwhelming public opposition. That is not responsive governance; it reflects poor policy formulation. The purpose of leadership is to anticipate the consequences of public policy before it is implemented. A government that repeatedly relies on public resistance to discover its mistakes is admitting, whether intentionally or not, that it is disconnected from the daily realities of its citizens. The proposed examination fee hike would have erected yet another financial barrier for millions of Nigerian children whose families are already burdened by inflation, rising transportation costs, soaring electricity tariffs, and declining purchasing power. I commend parents, teachers, labour organisations, student groups, education stakeholders, and every patriotic Nigerian whose collective voice compelled this reconsideration. Democracy works best when citizens hold their government accountable. However, suspending this policy should not be the end of the conversation. The Federal Government must now engage stakeholders to develop a sustainable funding model for WAEC and NECO that strengthens these examination bodies without transferring the burden to struggling families. More importantly, this administration must abandon its growing habit of announcing anti-people policies first and listening later. Consultation is not a sign of weakness; it is the foundation of responsible governance. A government that listens only after Nigerians cry out is a government that has stopped listening to the people it was elected to serve. Thankfully, as the 2027 election approaches, Nigerians have a clear choice. They can choose an administration whose policies are too often driven by trial and error, or they can choose experienced leadership with a proven record in national governance. The lesson from this latest policy reversal is simple: a nation as important as Nigeria cannot be governed like a laboratory for endless experimentation.
