@Maire_from_NJ I don't know of a law but we are to stay away from religious and political speech in our email and classrooms because we are paid by government and government isn't supposed to push for one view or belief. We also can't use school resources for personal gain. Like selling things.

Big government isn't the problem. Democracy is at risk because of big corporations, acting as people, influencing the levers of government. ALEC is the end of the people's voices counting for anything.

Americans are constantly worried about the power of government. The bigger danger is that we can’t get even basic things done - roads, bridges, masks, cotton swabs, voting, processing unemployment benefits, sending citizens money during a crisis.

@MicheleAtTriad The concern seems to be how we will handle the influx, not what caused it. Zeros caused it. They are horrible in the best of times, an authoritarian grading practice that does nothing for students, learning, or authentic assessment practices.

@alicekeeler Zone of proximal development holds that no learning takes place without some challenge. Too much, and there is frustration. Learning is in that magic space where they are challenged but can do it with a little support. Expect resistance, motivate them to want to try.

@RandySwift9 @rickwormeli2 Agree. I just can't get behind the idea that we know enough to decide what their motives or motivation may be. Even if we did, is this the time for authoritarian doubling down on what is a bad practice to begin with?

@principalkimmi I don't think any teacher we have would say they are just as effective now as they are in the classroom. But we expect students to be? I watch the same staff ignore deadlines/requirements all the time. Why are students held to a higher standard than the adults?
