@MacFarlaneNews To provide context, this happens a lot to both sides. Each side usually tries to “sneak” in things during reconciliation that don’t fall under the rules of reconciliation.

@JohnTWallace3 @bidro287 @FearedBuck Not sure who you’re replying to, but that’s true. You have to pay your “pro rata” share unless you have a commercial certificate and are operation under an AOC or 119.1(e) in which case you can be compensated.

@bidro287 @FearedBuck Well.chances are very good that nobody would get in trouble unless your buddy reports you but that’s the way the rules are written. When studying for your commercial certificate a big part of it is rules and regs on compensation. It’s way more complicated than most people think.

@bidro287 @FearedBuck I’m a commercial rated pilot. You cannot accept direct or indirect forms of compensation for your flight services. For example, you could not offer me free lodging at your beach house in exchange for me flying you to the beach. You could apply this to “food” too.

@DJSnM I certainly don’t envy being in that position. I’m guessing he was the only pilot on board. I always like having another set of hands with me while flying IFR.
