I can vouch the exact same thing. You almost “set and forget” about your database and that’s it I’m striving to do the same with my little project that I’m experimenting and going to be deploying soon. I’d say a lot of people should look to Planetscale as an example to do things well

Monitoring is not about logging everything. For a critical workflow, I want to know: Did it start? What decision was made? What happened in the end? Can I investigate without redeploying? Friday’s paid article will turn that into a practical playbook.

Quick production-readiness exercise: Choose one critical workflow and ask: • What does success mean? • Where can it fail quietly? • What evidence would explain it? • Where is that evidence stored? Start with the workflow, not the monitoring tool.

New free article: Your Users Shouldn’t Be Your Monitoring System Production readiness isn’t pretending nothing will fail. It’s making sure you’re not blind when it does. I cover quiet failures, useful logging, and where to begin.
A minor library update passed the tests and quietly broke every form on a site. No obvious error. No useful message. Just forms that stopped working. The application was broken. It was also quiet. That is the danger of having little visibility in production.
One of the most common production bug reports I receive is: “A customer says it isn’t working.” That isn’t the customer’s fault. They’re trying to use the product, not debug it. But their report shouldn’t be the only evidence you have.
