Conveniently everyone in this country has very short memories about security clearance concerns surrounding @BorisJohnson appointment as Foreign Secretary. Meeting with Former KGB Agent: In 2022, it was revealed that Johnson, while serving as Foreign Secretary in 2018, attended a party in Italy hosted by former KGB agent Alexander Lebedev without officials present. This meeting occurred after a NATO meeting centered on Russia, leading to accusations of a "complete disregard for basic national security". Restricted Intelligence Access: During his tenure as Foreign Secretary (2016–2018), Downing Street under Theresa May reportedly attempted to withhold sensitive intelligence from Johnson due to concerns within the intelligence community regarding his ability to keep information confidential. Security officials were "wary" of sharing information with him. Use of Private Communication: Johnson and several ministers were accused of breaching national security guidance by using personal email accounts and phones for government business. Peerage for Evgeny Lebedev: Concerns were raised regarding Johnson's decision to grant a peerage to Evgeny Lebedev, son of Alexander Lebedev, in 2020, despite security advice. Post-Office Lobbying (The "Boris Files"): Leaked documents from 2025 indicated that after leaving office, Johnson potentially misused his former contacts for personal financial gain, including lobbying senior Saudi officials and meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, which raised concerns about the blurring of private business and national security.
