Deeply alarmed by the ICE raids in New Bedford and the South Coast. Disappearing parents on their way to work or to pick up their kids from school is appalling and does NOTHING to keep communities safe. We must abolish ICE and stop this campaign of cruelty and terror.

Wilber’s habeas hearing is September 30 before Judge Orlando Garcia. In the meantime, we are asking for his release back to the hospital. Wilber’s communication privileges remain cut off, and I am still waiting for a confidential attorney call with him. I’ll continue to keep you updated.

Congressman Greg Casar visited Wilber at Pearsall today and confirmed that the bullet remains lodged in his body, his wound is still bleeding, and he has not fully regained mobility on his left side. He received an injection for pain only about an hour before the congressional visit. During the press conference, the Congressman called for adequate medical care, a full investigation, and the release of the entire ICE dashcam footage.

NEW: I've been speaking with a handful of experienced ICE agents in different parts of the country to get a sense of their mindsets during enforcement operations. They have described feeling tense on almost all stops due to the political climate. One veteran ICE agent articulated it to me this way: “We aren’t local cops. Local cops make stops and 99% of the time let people go with a ticket or warning. We are making every stop to take someone's freedom away and send them back to a hell hole. I'm not saying local cops don't have dangerous stops, I'm saying every stop we have is dangerous. Every stop we have is planned to end with handcuffs and exiling someone away from the life they've built here on the taxpayer's dime."

CNN's analysis of the video evidence of the latest ICE shooting matches my own. The ICE agent was not under threat when he fired into the car. We should end ICE traffic stops, which Tom Homan has said are unnecessary and dangerous to the officers and targets.

DHS keeps tweeting at me instead of answering a simple question: How does shooting a DoorDash driver in the back in Austin make anyone safer?

Wilber remains gravely ill, with the bullet still lodged in his body, and he remains in ICE detention. According to the detainee who spoke with his wife, Wilber appeared discolored, extremely swollen, and in significant pain. Our immediate demands are clear: restore Wilber’s communication privileges and take him back to the hospital. He needs access to appropriate medical care.
