BBPD is currently on the scene of a critical incident near High Ridge Road just north of Gateway Boulevard. Residents should avoid the area from High Ridge Road to Miner Road, Gateway Boulevard and surrounding areas. Schools and businesses within the area are on lockdown.

A witness attempted to pull Civitano out of the water until first responders arrived. Boynton Beach Fire Rescue arrived on scene and pronounced Civitano dead. FWC responded to assist with the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the jet ski, operated by Civitano, was traveling northbound in the canal when it crashed. Civitano was found lying in the water while his jet ski was observed traveling northbound by itself.

Whisman failed to yield to traffic, ultimately causing the vehicle to strike Whisman and his e-bike. Whisman was transported to Delray Medical Center; he was pronounced dead on July 6. The investigation is ongoing.
