SWAL Conference Overview #wisfb The SWAL will run through Darlington once again, bringing back a ton of guys from their D6 state title team, and they're the favorite in D5 now this year. The week 2 game against Lena-Winslow (Class 1A state champs in Illinois), will be one of the best games in the state. New Glarus moves over from the SWC where they shared a conference title last year. They should fare pretty well in the SWAL, but it's no gimmies. Fennimore had a solid year last year, and should be able to rack up a good amount of wins this year, especially with a very favorable non-conference slate.

D4-D7 preseason projected playoff brackets #wisfb In D4, it's a whole new look. Winneconne and Baldwin-Woodville move up to D3, Columbus goes back down to D5. Stratford and Northwestern come up from D5. Edgewood joins D4 after being in D3 last year. Lake Mills and Tyler Wollin will look to have a dream season. Little Chute may be the favorite coming in with lots returning from their runner-up team a year ago. Plenty of other contenders and strong programs will lurk around. Mayville is the defending D5 champions, but the defending D6 champions, Darlington, moves up to D5 and is the favorite coming in. Columbus will be a force, playing against larger competition all year. Lake Country Lutheran will look to contend. Grantsburg, Racine Lutheran, and Amherst all have elite teams as well. Darlington moves out to D5, but the defending D7 champions, Kenosha St. Joseph moves up as well as Potosi/Cassville. Regis and Mondovi will battle things out in the Cloverbelt. Edgar is Edgar and will certainly be a contender out of the Marawood. Bonduel and Prairie du Chien will look to make some noise as well. Very deep division. D7 will have a new champion with Kenosha St. Joseph moving up. The expected title contenders include runner-up Cochrane-Fountain City, Lourdes Academy, Coleman, Black Hawk/Warren (IL), Bangor, Boyceville, Pepin/Alma.

Let's keep it moving to the D3 projected preseason bracket. #wisfb Catholic Memorial comes in as the favorite, but they have a much harder path to a 1 seed, which means they'll likely have to win some road games to get to Madison. Reedsburg will be hungry to make another run, Pewaukee should be very strong, Whitefish Bay returns a lot from a team that made a Cinderella run to Level 4. Mt. Horeb/Barneveld has been knocking on the door for awhile now. Winneconne and Baldwin-Woodville move up from D4, with Winneconne coming off of a gold ball.

Division 2 Preseason Projected Bracket #wisfb Notre Dame comes in as the favorite on the back of future Badger RB Kingston Allen. Defending champion West De Pere moves up to D1, while defending D3 champion Grafton moves into D2. A contender or two will likely emerge from the Big Rivers. Homestead figures to be a force and look to get to Madison after a few years not being there. Monona Grove is getting closer to being at that level as well. And there's a handful of other teams that will have something to say. Who do you have bringing home the gold ball?

Only 2 days 'til kickoff, so why not get a bracket out there. This bracket is built following the full WIAA procedures based off of results from my simulation engine (10,000 full season simulations). It sorts teams by their average PQS score, and assigns 1-4 as 1 seeds, 5-8 as 2 seeds, etc. down to 8 seeds from 29-32. It then pairs the teams with their matching seed and group based on a geographical formula to minimize drive time as much as possible. Southwest Wisconsin Conference Overview #wisfb The SWC was very competitive a year ago, sending 6 out of 8 to the postseason, and Dodgeville was very close to being a 7th. New Glarus moves over the SWAL, and now the SWC teams will play a crossover with the SWAL. Prairie du Chien had a "down" year, yet still took home a share of the conference title. A tough non-con slate against larger schools should get them ready for conference play. Platteville finished in a distant 4th, but had many close games, and beat Capitol conference power Lodi in Level 1 on the road last year. They bring a lot of talent and can contend for the conference title this year. Lancaster lost many close games last year, but got into the playoffs once again due to their strong non-con wins. A few different bounces or calls go their way and they can push towards the top.

Trailways Conference Overview #wisfb Lourdes comes in as a heavy favorite and title contender in D7. Johnson Creek is a playoff regular, and the new Randolph/Cambria-Friesland co-op could cause some noise, considering both programs made the playoffs on their own last year. Westfield figures to be in the top half. Fall River/Rio and Parkview/Albany will hope to surprise and push for a playoff spot, while Deerfield and Dodgeland will look to push from the bottom.
