We are close to a fully blown constitutional crisis here created by the Minister for Justice. What the public needs to be told here is that people who should never get bail will because a failure to have legal representation at bail applications will see them found to be unlawfully detained and will be released. Minister O’Callaghan is one serious or fatal incident away from having to resign over this and it is absolutely inevitable and now just a matter of time. Good golly, Joanne. You spent seven books warning children about pure-blood supremacy, hereditary privilege, sacred family names and the stupidity of treating ancestry as evidence of moral worth. Now you have wheeled out the founder’s granddaughter as though Amnesty’s original mission passed through the bloodline like ownership of an enchanted country estate. What is the argument here? Seán MacBride co-founded Amnesty. This woman shares some of his DNA. Therefore her opinion carries hereditary authority over an international organisation sixty-five years later? Magnificent. The Benenson bloodline has spoken. Summon the Wizengamot. Being somebody’s granddaughter does not make you the living vessel of his institutional intentions. Organisations are not family heirlooms. Political judgment is not transmitted through the placenta. She may have a thoughtful argument, but “granddaughter of the founder” adds biography, not authority. You wrote an entire fantasy series in which the villains were obsessed with bloodlines, then reached for the nearest descendant the moment you needed a moral endorsement. Apparently hereditary status is sinister when Lucius Malfoy invokes it, but absolutely authoritative when the descendant agrees with Joanne. You have not produced evidence that Amnesty has become an authoritarian regime. You have produced a blood relative with an opinion and placed her genealogy beneath the quotation like a magical seal of authenticity. Seven books about the dangers of inherited prestige.
