Canadian born, Vinessa Antoine made history in 2018 by becoming the first Black Canadian to lead a dramatic show in Canada. In 2020, she received The Nova Scotia Screen Actors award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Lead + Featured Female Role for her work on Diggstown

Today we are sharing a quote from Sarah Jama. Sarah Jama is a community organizer from Hamilton, Ontario. She is co-founder of the Disability Justice Network of Ontario. Her lived experiences have fostered a passion for community engagement, disability justice, and activism.

Winston LaRose became the executive director of the Jane-Finch Concerned Citizens Organization in 1994, which helps residents and newcomers with issues ranging from police brutality to deportation; it also places local youths in internships and job training.

Viola Desmond was a Canadian businesswoman and civil libertarian who built a career as a beautician. The story of her courageous refusal to accept an act of racial discrimination provided inspiration to the Black community in Canada. Viola is now on the Canadian $10 bill.
