Liquidity just got a green light. The Fed will officially end Quantitative Tightening on December 1st - marking the close of a $2 trillion balance sheet unwind that began in 2022. It’s the first time in over three years the central bank stops draining liquidity from the system. Here’s what it means: • QT was the quiet tightening force behind the rate hikes. • Ending it injects breathing room into credit and equity markets. • It signals confidence that inflation risk is easing - or that liquidity stress was rising. The last time QT paused, asset prices went vertical. The liquidity cycle has turned again. The faucet is opening - and the flood will follow.
#Fed cuts rates by 25bps to 3.75-4% as expected, but there were 2 dissents - in opposite directions. Miran dissented in favor of a 50bps cut, and Schmid dissented in favor of no rate change. So mostly inline except for the hawkish dissent. Fed says it will stop shrinking balance sheet on Dec. 1.
