Münchausen syndrome/by proxy is considered a mental illness itself but I’ve done a lot of research into it and imo it seems more like an extreme symptom of cluster B personality disorders like BPD or NPD. Never understood why it’s considered a mental illness independently.

@feministschlatt Obv I don’t think that BPD should discredit potential health issues, it’s an unfortunate stigma I have seen with my own eyes nursing in the psych ward. But I don’t think using munchausen behavior as potential diagnostic criteria for other conditions would worsen that stigma.

They do exist, but men with similar behavioral traits tend to be diagnosed with Narcissistic personality disorder. My theory is societal gender roles influence different behavioral outcomes in those with emotional trauma. So men tend to be NPD, women tend to be BPD.
