You can’t replace Enzo Fernandez with £120m. Not directly. You can spend that money on one or two players who might become an Enzo in 2–3 years. And then what? In the best case scenario, one develops, becomes world class and eventually wants to leave too. So you repeat the same cycle. That’s not how you build a top club. That’s how you become a stepping stone.

Chelsea have Enzo Fernandez. Man City don’t. Why on earth would we sell them Enzo and willingly hand them the midfielder they need to fix their problems, while creating a massive hole in our own midfield? Think about it. We would literally be solving City’s problem and creating one big one for ourselves. You don’t just replace Enzo Fernandez. You don’t fill that gap overnight. Forget Alex Scott or Adam Wharton. They’re good players and could be solid backups, but neither one is a quick direct replacement for Enzo. If they were, City would be going after them too.
