Bruce Meyer, interim head of the MLBPA: "I will tell you with all honesty, I have never seen this degree of unity at this point among agents and players. I think, honestly, the league has done us a favor. Because their proposals are, in fact, so obviously and extremely bad for players at all level, that it's actually been a benefit for our unity. Each proposed change makes it clear that the owners have no intention to negotiate in good faith. A salary cap, offloading development, and limiting contracts indicate that cutting costs is paramount and that competitive balance is an afterthought. They do not care about baseball

BREAKING: In its next CBA, the league is proposing a max contract length of 5 yrs for free agent players switching teams, 6 years to retain their own players. No deferred contracts. Qualifying offer is gone too. Also, 5 years to free agency for players 30 or older.

@MLB @InTheAlleyPod Speaking as a former MLB player, I’d be careful about framing this as players versus competitive balance. The players are the game. If there are revenue-sharing issues, address those. Don’t solve ownership problems by restricting the market for talent that drives the sport.
