I’ve seen people leave after discovering the Fathers, comparing what they found there to what modern “apologists” say, and concluding that Orthodoxy must not be the true Church because it no longer believes the truth. The differentiator here is whether someone understands that the opinions of modern “apologists” are worthless in terms of what the Church has always taught and preached. Dogma doesn’t change with the times or what sort of content incentivizes the algorithm (ie, what modernists say and do for money). After surveying the Fathers and the modern “apologetics” landscape one is left with one of two conclusions: either A) Orthodoxy is false because it doesn’t preach what the Fathers did, or B) that it makes no difference at all how many people are wrong because the Divine Revelation given “once unto the Saints” has never changed and will never change even if there’s only one man left who believes in it. Theology is not a numbers game and Christ promised that *all* His disciples would be persecuted. Look at Church history and you will quickly find that, as often as not, it is errant members of the institutional Church who persecuted the Saints. We don’t need Muslims or Jews or atheists to crucify or try to kill us; we have plenty of “Orthodox” who, under the power of Satan and from purely selfish motivates, have no problem doing the devil’s dirty work. This has been the case from time immemorial and — like our dogma — will never change.
