We got it cleaned up in an hour and a half with the help of neighbors, including an incoming freshman, and a random dude who showed up with a big chainsaw. He was Chris and goes by Chrispy and just wanted to do good. I couldn't dig him up on social media, but he was a godsend.

@NWSChicago Winds topped out our sycamore in Homewood, just south of the Izaak Walton Preserve. 12-inch diameter branches. Haven't checked the rest of the neighborhood yet. We have work to do.

Dave Ward led a special Chicago Southland Green Drinks last night. In a 2-hour tour, he explained the environmental thought behind Coyote Run GC, H-F Park District, in Flossmoor. Roughs, edges, trees, flower beds are wild looking native plantings. It can be done on a golf course.

Haven't caught a fallfish in quite a while. Caught this at lunch from Penns Creek while trout fishing. Fallfish are the largest native member of the minnow family in North America.

I love ravens. This one sat right above me as I was walking near my campsite at RB Winter State Park. I wish we had them in Illinois. I came in to Pennsylvania for a friend's mom's memorial and I'm taking a couple extra days for hiking and fishing.

First time seeing back-to-back baseball games in more than 30 years. Nice to have my wife along, which helps make up for a poor performance by the Sox. Beautiful night and a guy behind us took a modern mini Polaroid of us in the quirky Section 108.

While doing cleanup at Flossmoor Community Church after all the heat and rain, I had this little guy, an American toad, hop out. I was afraid I had whacked it with my hoe. But it was just looking for a new place to hide, then was thoughtful enough to sit for a decent photo.

Picked my first tomato and promptly popped it in my mouth. Perfect. I picked a second one for my wife. If I wanted a perfect life, I should probably switch that priority. Plenty more coming very soon, so I'll have time to work on that priority shift.

I spotted FOTY monarch butterfly last night, around the corner on our evening walk. Wasn't fast enough to photograph it, so settled for a photo of another pollinator on the milkweed, but couldn't ID the bee. Impressed our neighbor knew to plant her milkweeds in clumps of 3-5.
