🇺🇦 At the Ukraine Recovery Conference #URC2026 in Gdańsk, Cogeca's Vice President, Agnieszka Maliszewska took the stage for the 🇪🇺 cooperatives on how Cooperatives contributes to Ukraine’s sustainable recovery of agri-food and energy sectors towards EU Integration: "Our aim is to support farmers at every stage of the value chain and, at the same time, provide consumers with safe, high-quality food. 🇪🇺 🇹🇭The EU-Thailand FTA offers significant opportunities to strengthen trade and economic cooperation. However, this deepening of economic ties must not come at the expense of sectors already under significant pressure. 🐔Sugar, poultry and rice remain highly sensitive due to cumulative impact of different FTAs (Ukraine, Mercosur, Australia etc.) in addition to major differences in production standards and market conditions. European Commission should treat these sectors with extreme caution and pursue their exclusion from the negotiations to safeguard the viability of 🇪🇺 production.

Will European farmers and agri-cooperatives still be able to protect their crops and make our plates full each day ? 🍽️ Farmers gathered in Brussels at the European Parliament this morning at the invitation of Shadow Rapporteurs for the Food and Feed safety Omnibus simplification @BenoitCassart and Gheorghe Carciu to go through their plant protection challenges 🥔🍎🫛 From the various sectors' testimonies regarding productivity and competitiveness, it is clear that unless efficient alternatives are available and added to the farmers toolbox 🧰, it will be essential to preserve existing tools and accelerate the authorisation of new ones. It will be equally important to harmonise implementation and innovation to ensure professional production and food security. ➡️ Omnibus simplification will be key to give to farmers the means to do their jobs 🚜

IFA National Council are meeting in COPA-COGECA’s headquarters today as part of a number of meetings and events throughout this week in Brussels, in preparation of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

📍 Today in Luxembourg @COPACOGECA was present ahead of the #AGRIFISH, with Vice-President @gormanifa to meet with Cyprus Minister Maria Panayiotou 🇨🇾 and Bulgarian Agriculture Minister @PAbrovsky 🇧🇬 🗓️An opportunity to highlight farmers and agri-cooperatives positions on the main topics of the agenda of Ministers: - The need for a strong Common #CAP with a budget adapted to inflation -A quick implementation of the Fertiliser Action Plan proposed by the @EU_Commission ➕ call to intervene urgently on liquidity for farmers - A necessary fair trade that benefits all @COPACOGECA appreciates Minister Panayiotou for her dedicated efforts over the past 6⃣ months in supporting the farming community and for actively considering Copa and Cogeca perspectives on various issues. 🇮🇪We look forward to welcoming the Irish Presidency, as we need to continue work to address and act on the numerous challenges facing the agricultural sector.

💧🚜Caroline van der Heyden, Vice Chair of the @COPACOGECA's Working Party on Environment and Climate joined the Roundtable on Water Resilience and Circular Economy and recalled that sectors must not work in silos. #Water scarcity is no longer a Mediterranean issue, resilience around this critical resource must be built with farmers➡️investing on-farm water storage, precision irrigation, and mainstreaming concrete solutions that work. Wastewater recovery and utilisation issues must be closed to reduce our dependency on synthetic fertilisers and third country supply chains. ♻️Water Reuse Regulation's progress, still suffer from several Member States opt-out, though it could contribute to clean water and also reduce nutrient and pollution load in waterways. A conversation on water and circularity couldn't be held in the context of agriculture without mentioning the great strides forward that were made on #RENURE, and the progress on technological solutions to water issues.

In just a few hours, EU leaders will begin fundamental discussions in Brussels on the future of Europe. Ahead of this key gathering, we would like to remind all participants that investing in Europe's agricultural sector means investing in Europe's future 🇪🇺 Recent geopolitical events have shown that peace and stability cannot be taken for granted. Failing to invest in agriculture and rural areas would be a strategic mistake, as food is increasingly being 'weaponised' in conflicts. Our overall security is something very concrete, built on clear pillars, and food security is one of its central components. The latest negotiating approach put forward by the Cypriot Presidency for the next EU budget maintains the structure of the @EU_Commission's proposal and its Single Fund approach. The proposed baseline for the agricultural envelope does not reflect the food security and transition challenges that will arise over the coming period. For Copa and Cogeca, the fundamental concern remains unchanged: the widening gap between expectations and means. Beyond the figures, the issue is one of coherence in the EU's agricultural vision 👀 It is not consistent to define agriculture as a strategic sector, recognise that food security cannot be taken for granted, and raise sustainability ambitions while simultaneously reducing real support for farmers. As negotiations move to the highest political level, @COPACOGECA urge Member States and the European Parliament to seize this opportunity to equip the CAP with the budgetary ambition, institutional strength and long-term certainty needed for European agriculture and food security. We call on EU leaders to reflect this reality both in their immediate responses to current crises and in the next #MFF, and to place agriculture at the heart of their decisions.
