We are very excited to announce our new staff application for the Spring 2025 publishing term! The application is currently accepting submissions and will remain open until Sunday, January 26th at 11:59pm ET.
In 2023, IL implemented the highly anticipated Pretrial Fairness Act, legislation aimed at eliminating cash bail, thus reducing rates of pretrial detention. In May, however, IL passed a unique complementary bill to the PFA that seeks redress the failings of past bail reform.

Africa: South Africa temporarily closed its borders with Mozambique after eighteen people were murdered in post-election violence. Protestors demonstrated against the alleged fraudulent election win by Frelimo, the party that has ruled Mozambique since 1975.
US: Former President Donald Trump won the presidential election against Vice President Harris, securing 295 out of the necessary 270 electoral votes. Trump was able to win key swing states such as Wisconsin and Michigan which President Biden won in the 2020 election.

Arseny Tubrin, a Russian anti-war activist lost his appeal after being accused of joining the Freedom of Russia Legion, a unit of Russians fighting for Ukraine against the Russian army. Tubrin’s case made headlines as he is one of Russia’s youngest political prisoners.
Delays in the project and cost overruns have caused the construction of the rail to be billions of dollars over budget and many years past its intended completion date, and has generated disappointment among Honolulu residents over promises that have yet to be fulfilled.
