Condo owners in Torrance, Los Angeles County were all hit with a $49,352 bill EACH by their HOA Because insurance prices in California are going up. Many California HOAs are sending homeowners massive repair bills to bring them into compliance “Every owner in the 499 unit complex hit with the same big bill for a list of repairs” The total cost of the repairs is over $19 million dollars “It is a very lopsided relationship by just by virtue of the fact that the HOA's got everybody's money to play with, and the HOA has authority to issue discipline. Add in the fact there's no regulatory agency that oversees HOAs in California, and it can become a contentious relationship” I researched this more and there is a big part of the story that’s being left out, get this: - The work is almost entirely for what’s called ‘the condo podium building’ - About 92.3% of the money goes to those buildings and the area around them - 4 of 5 board members live in those condo buildings This is one of the biggest conflict of interests in HOA history but exactly what you would expect in California
