Andrew Welk is creating impressive projects in his 1st semester at CAPS. His passion for music—serving as the drum major at AHS—has fueled his creative process. He has produced saxaphone mouthpieces, percusion block handles and a drumstick holder. Impressive!
Julie Gawith, a Dr of PT & owner of True Physical Therapy, manages to find time for CAPS despite her busy schedule. Julie is always happy to speak to both the AM and the PM sessions. Thank you, Julie, for helping us prepare and grow the next generation of healthcare providers!
Cambridge Family Dentistry has been a fantastic partner with CAPS for the last few years. Emma Whiddon and Hailey Snow created a video for them and said they learned about communication, compromise, time management, and being self-directed. Sounds like it was a great experience!
There are so many incredible projects happening in the Engineering strand. The students spent the first part of the semester learning 3D modeling programs and how to use the machines and tools in the engineering lab safely. They are putting their newly acquired skills to work!
Medical Monday! The 3rd graders from Sunflower paid CAPS a visit. The medical students set up 3 engaging activities to educate them about the skeletal, muscular & nervous systems. They enjoyed dancing, coloring, & even had their reflexes tested. It’s hard to say who had more fun!
The Engineering strand has a new 3D printer to master. Just recently they received the Formlabs Form 4 Printer. This 3D printer is MUCH faster than the ones we currently have in the engineering lab. Can’t wait to see what amazing items the students will create!
Today we welcomed the 10th graders from AHS. They came for a quick visit and got to spend some time in each of the strands - Business, Engineering, Medical - to learn about the Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS).
A group of young entrepreneurs from the Business strand have joined forces to combine their collections of trading cards and miscellaneous collectible items to launch an eBay store. They have had over $1,000 in sales. Congrs to Braydon , Brody , and Isaac for putting in the work!

The Prom Dress Drive & Giveaway is back! Allie Wells, Presley Klitzing and Aleene Tarhini are managing the event. They will host a SHORT dress giveaway event. Join us January 19th, from 11-3:00 at CAPS for an exciting short dress shopping experience. Stay tuned for more details!
Medical Monday! The Med 1 students are currently working to obtain their American Heart Association CPR certifications. A component of this training covers Basic Life Support (BLS). BLS encompasses first aid techniques for various injuries. This is invaluable knowledge!
Fun Friday Question! What do you want to be when you grow up?!?
CAPS wants to thank the National Institute for Aviation Research, WSU for being such an amazing partner. We also want to give a shoutout to three engineering students currently interning. They are using the skills they learned at CAPS today to advance toward their future careers.
One of our Business students has taken the initiative to organize “HALL-O-WHEELS” Car Show. It will be Sunday, October 19th from 12:30 - 4:00 PM in the CAPS South parking lot. There will be prizes for a variety of car categories, plus snacks, music, and a giveaway.
Sergeant Erik Guzman from the Wichita Police Department shared his insights on negotiation, drawing from his extensive experience in crisis negotiations. Thank you to Sergeant Guzman for generously sharing his expertise on this subject!
Med 1 students explored the anatomical arrangement of major body organs. The curriculum then pivoted to focus on dignity & compassion in patient care. This allows students to understand the diverse aspects of a career in healthcare while growing their medical knowledge.

CAPS is proud of remarkable students like Tristan Gibbs (AHS, 2025). After four semesters in the Business strand, Tristan used his skills to secure a dream job in Alaska. We look forward to following his journey as he pursues his ambitions.
