@WordOnFire There is so much debate online and in the Church about the Traditional Mass, but I rarely hear anyone promoting the previous Divine Office. It was a huge burden that many priests and bishops were asking to be eased. The near-universal embracing of the LotH by clergy is wonderful.

@LordEruadan @CristvoAnd111 Oh please. §1323-4 doesn’t give them a pass. “Grave fear” mitigates culpability because it dulls the intellect and the will, thus preventing a person from seeing or acting upon the truth. The SSPX has had plenty of time and warnings to know what they’re doing is wrong.

@timotheeology Tim, can you touch on the SSPX justifications for “supplied jurisdiction”? Also, when they invoke “grave fear” to mitigate a canonical penalty WRT excommunication, I thought fear lessened culpability bc it paralyzes the intellect & will. The SSPX would not claim either of these.

@DazzerG123 @breeadail The reason grave fear lessens culpability is because it prevents one from correctly exercising their intellect or will. When the SSPX says they have a grave fear, the Pope has reassured them such a fear or crisis is unfounded. This isn’t fear, it’s an excuse.

@NickACardone @MarkRome17 Then why did PF extend faculties to the SSPX for hearing confessions and witnessing marriages? He obviously knew they needed that for valid sacraments. This is really shady stuff, Nick. You are casting your lot with a group that is going further off the reservation each day.
