🎓Learn how to create a powerful Dynamic Embers smart material in a matter of seconds, in my latest video series (AAA) Pro Tips! This smart material can be used on virtually any 3D asset. ___________________________________________________ In this video, the steps are as follows: 1. Create a fill layer to then apply the base maps for our asset into it. 2. Bake out the world space, AO, Curvature, and Position maps. These maps will be crucial for the smart material to function. Also, be sure to add an emissive channel to the project. 3. Next, create another fill layer labeled (Fire animation gradient) with a black mask and inside the mask apply a paint layer. Select the paint layer and paint a simple pill shape using a soft brush. Add an anchorpoint to the mask and disable all channels in this fill layer. 4. Create a folder labeled (embers smart material) and set it to pass through. Add a paint layer inside this folder and set it to pass through as well followed by an anchorpoint. 5. Create another fill layer and apply the paint layers anchorpoint information into its color channel. From here an HSL filter should be added to desaturate and darken the colors. 6. Next, create an additional fill layer with an orange-colored emissive channel. Add a black mask to this fill layer and inside its mask apply a dirt generator. This will give us the illusion of the embers glowing from inside the charred tree. Duplicate this fill layer and tweak its emissive color to a yellowish hue and reduce its mask amount. Do this a second time but with a white-colored emissive channel. This will now create an effect of the embers appearing brighter the deeper they are inside the tree. 7. Lastly, add these layers into a folder with a black mask and apply the (Fire Animation Gradient) anchorpoint into its mask via a fill layer. Now we have a charred embers effect wherever we paint using the paint layer created inside the gradient mask! 🎓Learn 3 vital Tips for creating Photorealistic Textures for AAA Game assets in a matter of seconds! In this week's episode of Triple-A Pro Tips, I will share 3 important tips for creating photorealistic 3D assets. ____________________________________________________ (Tip #1: Handpainting) Textures should have realistic edgewear without any generated-looking results.   In this video is an example where the asset on the right side has procedural-looking edgewear, while the asset on the left side looks much more photorealistic. The key to achieving photorealistic edgewear is to rely less on generators and to focus more on hand-painted wear by utilizing stencils and brushes.  ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ (Tip #2: Subtlety)  A common mistake I see some 3D artists make is adding too many grunge maps onto an asset- All ranging from dirt, rust, edgewear, oils, dents, etc.  While these details can look amazing on some assets if kept subtle, adding too many without proper subtlety and balancing can quickly make the textures too visually overwhelming for the eye to look at. ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ (Tip #3: Lighting) One of the most vital stages for achieving a photorealistic result is the lighting.  It's crucial when lighting an asset that the lighting is not too dark or too bright.  A great way to check for this issue is to apply a level's to your render inside of Photoshop and to use the levels as a guide to see where your lighting stands.  Sometimes you can even hit Auto on the levels and Photoshop will give you a rough idea as to where the lighting needs to be taken too.  ____________________________________________________ The final results of this asset can be found on Artstation here: artstation.com/artwork/xDQwKR More AAA Game Dev Tips can be found on my YouTube channel here: youtube.com/@cohenbrawley/… Stay tuned for more weekly Tips! 🎓 Learn how to create a Rainbow Titanium effect in a matter of seconds in my latest video series (AAA) Pro Tips! _____________________________________________________ In this video, the steps are as follows: 1. Create an empty fill layer with a black mask and inside that mask add a (Gradient Linear 3) and planar project it onto your mesh. 2. Add a curvature generator in the same mask with its opacity set to 21. 3. Add a dirt generator in the same mask with its blending mode set to screen. 4. Optionally, another fill layer can be introduced to add another color transition elsewhere. Just be sure to set it's blending mode to subtract. 5. Add an anchor point to this mask as well so that we can collect its information in the next layer. 6. The next step is to create a paint layer and inside the paint layer add a fill layer with the Anchorpoint from the previous step added into its specular channel. 7. Add a gradient filter to the paint layer with its Color quantity set to 7. The color and color positions will need to be individually tweaked to achieve the desired results. ____________________________________________________ Now we are left with this very nice result of a Rainbow Titanium! 🎓Learn how to create an Antler Handle Material in a matter of seconds in my latest video series (AAA) Pro Tips! ____________________________________________________ In this video, the steps are as follows: 1.   Create a slightly tan-colored fill layer with high gloss to act as the antler's base material. 2.  Add another fill layer to add some subtle color variation. 3.  Add a third fill layer with a black mask and inside that mask add a shape set to planar projection followed by a Directional and Perlin Noise set to multiply. Add an anchor point to the mask as well. 4.  Create another fill layer with slight color saturation and store the information from the anchor point into its mask. 5. Create a fourth fill layer with dark diffuse and matte gloss. Inside its mask add the antler base alpha with a levels to clamp the value. 6. Add another fill layer with height information and apply the antler base alpha to its mask via an anchor point.
