Latin America is entering a new era of #HIV treatment choice, but innovation alone is not enough. Closing our MPP-@pahowho-@UNITAID #AIDS2026 session, Lobna Gaayeb (@Lobnacting ), MPP, highlighted three priorities for turning WHO recommendations into impact: availability, awareness and health system readiness. “Innovation without access is not innovation for the people who need it most.” From TLD to DTG/3TC, TAF-based regimens and future long-acting options, the goal is clear: the right regimen for the right person at the right time.

The next generation of HIV treatment is already within reach. At #AIDS2026, Sébastien Morin of @MedsPatentPool highlighted how voluntary licensing has already helped expand access to affordable HIV medicines in 125 countries and reach 24 million people with generic TLD. Now, attention is turning to TAF-based regimens, DTG/3TC dual therapy and future long-acting injectable options. “Access does not happen automatically. Following the MPP-ViiV agreement on #dolutegravir in late 2020, we're pleased to announce progress in the fight against #HIV in Azerbaijan🇦🇿, Belarus🇧🇾, Kazakhstan🇰🇿 & Malaysia🇲🇾👇 ✅ In Belarus & Kazakhstan, the volumes of DTG procured by national HIV programmes can cover 78% and 86% of people on #ART respectively. ✅ Azerbaijan is making strides to reach 65%of people on ART with DTG treatments this year🎉 ✅Malaysia is planning to accelerate the transition to TLD starting from 2025.
