She endured 32 hours trapped in darkness but her newborn gave her the strength to survive. When twin earthquakes devastated Venezuela in June 2026, Dayana Patiño was buried under the rubble of her collapsed apartment. Her leg was severely injured and her 18 day old son Juan David was pinned against her chest. She remained conscious for hours constantly checking that her baby was still breathing and fighting against panic. Rescuers were able to pass water to the infant through a straw inserted via a pipe. After more than 30 hours rescue teams finally freed them both. Dayana was injured but alive and her baby emerged completely unharmed. In the midst of tragedy their story stands as a powerful testament to a mothers love the human will to survive and the miracles that emerge when hope refuses to fade.
