Here’s a simple fact. According to Hamas health ministry stats showing deaths by age and sex, deaths of children are roughly equal male vs female until about age 12, when males start dying more, a discrepancy that increases dramatically at around age 14. By 18, male deaths totally dominate the charts. There are only two possible explanations: 1) Hamas was putting teenage boys into combat in very large numbers 2) Israel’s “indiscriminate” killing of Gaza children somehow managed to randomly take out over-12 boys much more than girls. Which is more likely? Any discussion of underage deaths that doesn’t cover this is lying to you.

My friends on the Right--describing the continuation of a 140-160 year-old policy that was uncontroversial until about 10 years ago is, by definition, not "madness." It may be wrong. But it's perfectly sane. Fifteen years ago, you wouldn't have given a shit.

To accomplish anything in Congress, you have to work with people and (the horror!) compromise. And the DSA rhetoric is all about never compromising because, of course, they're absolutely right about everything.

Same applies on the flip side the the Freedom Caucus: lots of speeches, some obstruction of the party mainstream, little actually accomplished. MTG quit because she couldn't just wave her magic wand and get her way.

Kind of fascinated to see how the new DSA members respond to having to work in the House. We haven't seen a lot of actual legislating from the current Progressive Caucus, just resolutions and amendments they know won't get through.

Syrian President a-Sharaa has appointed his share of 70 MPs to the 210-seat Syrian parliament, after 140 were selected by government-appointed electoral committees. Notably, a-Sharaa appointed Laith Bal'ous as one of the 2 representatives to Sweidaa'. I've spoken to multiple people in and from Sweidaa': even those who oppose al-Hijri and his militias, see Bal'ous as a sellout and tales about his criminality against Druze civilians abound. He does not enjoy a support base inside Sweidaa', unlike more neutral professional Druze figures, including the former Druze Minister of Agriculture, Amjad Badr (recently fired to be replaced by an HTS senior official). The Druze make up about 3% of the Syrian population. The Syrian government currently has 0 Druze ministers. The Syrian parliament has 1 MP (so 0.47% of parliament is Druze). Damascus cannot treat Swediaa' as an area that needs to be subjugated. The government is yet to apologize for the massacres last year, or demonstrate that it is prosecuting the perpetrators of these war crimes. The appointment of Bal'ous signals to the population of Sweidaa' that they must either be loyal puppets (like Bal'ous) or they are not welcomed inside the Syrian polity.

I understand opposition to birthright citizenship. I don't understand the argument that continuing the century-plus status quo could be catastrophic. And I hate the argument that the U.S. shouldn't do something just because others don't. What about American exceptionalism?

Intelligence assessments on Hamas in Gaza, from the Israeli military and Western security officials based in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, continue to track the group’s preparations for its next war with Israel. Since the ceasefire, Hamas has been rebuilding its tunnel network and manufacturing hundreds of anti‑tank and anti‑personnel IEDs, RPG warheads, and other munitions. Reporting from multiple outlets, along with diplomatic cables, some of which I have seen, indicates that Hamas is recruiting new fighters and providing select cadres with specialized training from surviving, battle‑hardened operatives. Hamas has reconstituted portions of its forces and restored a functioning command hierarchy capable of sustaining a prolonged fight. Its leadership is applying lessons learned, studying perceived weaknesses in Israeli tactics, and preparing for a multi‑month confrontation. The conclusion is unavoidable: regardless of public pledges, political messaging, or whatever post‑ceasefire process emerges, Hamas has no interest in disarmament, no intention of relinquishing control of Gaza, and no willingness to dismantle its extensive militant and terror infrastructure. Israeli officials are weighing options to confront Hamas, but all indications point to strong opposition from the Trump administration to any renewed military campaign and pressure to preserve the status quo. A return to war in Gaza has always been an eventuality. The only plausible path to dislodging Hamas is separating civilians from the group by establishing genuinely safe zones free of militants and weapons infrastructure, with access controlled through vetting to prevent operatives from blending in with civilians. Without this shift, Israel risks repeating the old strategy; one that inflicts severe harm on Palestinian civilians while allowing Hamas to exploit their suffering and preserve its capabilities. Israel now controls nearly two‑thirds of the Gaza Strip, much of it empty. This territory beyond the “Yellow Line” must be used to shelter Palestinian civilians away from Hamas and under the protection of a new, credible security apparatus such as the International Stabilization Force or a newly created Gaza police force.

No judgment, because the pressure is incredible, but there's a lot of wilting in this shootout.

⭕️The 16+ kilometer underground tunnel in which LT Hadar Goldin was held has now been sealed, using 30,000+ cubic meters of concrete. The tunnel complex included ~80 living quarters and served as a Hamas terrorist command-and-control center. The tunnel was located near the Philadelphi Corridor and ran beneath a residential neighborhood, mosques, kindergartens, clinics, a school & a UNRWA clinic.

You’re right, I can’t tell you these things because this is all bs. NYC spends $44k per student. America spends massively on healthcare, poverty, etc. And, of course, Israel isn’t committing genocide and the amount of aid money it receives is a rounding error on what we spend on welfare and entitlement programs. This woman panders to the know-nothing populist left, the way the Benny Johnson crowd panders to the know-nothing right. But at least Johnson’s not going to Congress.
