I don’t go to many movies outside the house much anymore but there are a few here and there I’ll get excited about (which includes ANY Despicable Me/Minion movies!). My 81yo Dad and I just talked about seeing this movie last night. He wouldn’t know the DEI spin or what any actors’ political persuasion is if you paid him. And I had not thought about DEI myself. I just like the actors and it conjured up feelings I had seeing Black Panther in a theater which turned out to be spectacular. Plus my Dad loves going TO the movies. I may be wrong, but most people I know aren’t on Twitter where a lot of this bologna bubbles up/gets passed around and I don’t think people really MAJORLY care about who plays who… they just want to be entertained for a couple of hours. I know lots of conservatives/dems that will see this and couldn’t care less about the DEI brouhaha in this and probably don’t even know it’s became a thing. It’s art. It’s film. It’s fantasy. As my daughter would say - it’s not that deep. If it’s great, people will see it regardless. The US is a nation of over-complicators. Everything’s for the plot.

It’s not the HRT. It’s the joy we know he embodies despite the blowback. The joy he feels despite everything life has thrown at him. The resilience is admirable. He embodies the American dream, the same dream he wants for others when he could so easily walk away and stop caring. We tear up because it’s beautiful to watch someone live in that strength, care and integrity. For many, it’s beautiful and inspiring. For far too many, it’s audacity… and that’s a pretty big tell on one’s security and that’s not about him at all.
