So the satellite data outage that we had last weekend
due to NOAA/NESDIS issues was fixed today, and they needed to take the satellite image data feed down for 30 minutes to accomplish that. Hopefully that prevents future outages as well. -Gilbert
All right...this is good. The NOAA data feed just came back, at least in part. We just processed the 17:01Z and 17:06Z GOES-19 imagery. GOES-18 is processing, too.
I feel bad for NESDIS, they have had a tough week. Hang in there, ladies and gentlemen... -Gilbert
Update at 17Z/Noon CT on no satellite imagery...
NWS has spoken:
NOUS42 KWNO 011656
ADASDM
..GOES SATELLITE OUTAGE
NESDIS IS AWARE OF AND CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING A GOES MAINTENANCE
RELATED SATELLITE OUTAGE THAT BEGAN AT 01/1626Z. NO ETR AT THIS
TIME.
Looks like the problem is upstream from us. I just checked our satellite dish receiver and our backup, and neither are getting satellite imagery, from two different ground stations. No satellite imagery until somebody upstream fixes their issues. -Gilbert
We modified our scripts to handle satellite image size issues that NOAA is having right now, and did an emergency push to production at 17:10Z. So far, as of 18:10Z, everything seems to be working. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience. -Gilbert
Until then, GOES-WEST imagery will be unavailable, and GOES-East may stop working as well. We have no ETA on repair, but we are looking at an alternate way to handle their image problems. /2
As seen on our website, GOES imagery from NOAA/NESDIS is having issues with sending out consistent sizing of imagery, which has caused our image generating scripts to crash, and crash our server as well. We are working with NOAA to try to get this solved. /1
I fixed---a third time----the U.S. Drought Monitor image.
This fix much more robustly handles the apparent frequent schedule changes for the product release. I apologize for the inconvenience -Gilbert
Complications from a security patch caused our text and radar server to hang late last night. This issue has been corrected as of 13:15Z (8:15 AM CT). We apologize for the inconvenience. -Gilbert
We are now making our own radar mosaics. You didn't notice any changes? Good! Except, satellite radar mosaic overlays now update roughly 60 seconds faster than before. If you see any issues, please let us know! -Gilbert
As of the 12Z runs, the RDPS/GDPS are fixed, including showing inches instead of millimeters for snow.
Also, a bug has been fixed where the script would start before the data was all in, so no more missing images in a loop.
12Z World and North American ECMWF sectors are fixed. -G
We have work to do before the RDPS and GDPS are 100% back online. All parameters except total QPF and some snow parameters are now working. And, we are working to get the rest of those back online ASAP. Thank you for your patience! -Gilbert
I talked with our local National Weather Service office and, they, too, were having satellite imagery issues around 14Z. Imagery has since come back to both of us, so it's not on our end. Even so, we apologize for the imagery hiccup. -Gilbert
Our radar and text server ingest software has been repaired, and data is flowing as of 12:30Z. My apologies for the data loss last night; the root cause (a bug in the software) has been identified, and this will be avoided in the future. -Gilbert
It looks like we had a failure of our data ingest software starting just before 23Z yesterday on one of our main servers. I am repairing it as of 12:30Z this morning. Standby, and I apologize for the data loss. I hope to be back up shortly. -Gilbert
We had a technical issue that kept our radar mosaics from working starting around 22Z Friday. As of 03Z Sunday, that issue has been corrected. We apologize for any inconvenience. -Gilbert
