Tim Bankston was found fatally shot on the South Side this morning. Bankston, the high school basketball coach at TF North in Calumet City, was a Chicago basketball legend and a teammate of Ben Wilson at Simeon in the 1980s. chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2026/07/…

John was one of the best officials around, but an even better person. He did many of our games when I was at EG. He understood the struggles/challenges we faced & was always someone we could talk to. He had a way of keeping things positive & lighthearted. I will miss him dearly.

Sad day, indeed. Wonderful human being, kind soul, and friend to all. He worked our games over the years in season and in the summer. Treated every game like it was a state championship. A First Class person with a passion to get it right! Anyone who worked with John knew they were with a great partner who loved the game like we loved him! He was a tremendous mentor and role model who was so well-respected by coaches and officials. He'll be missed in a big way!
