We’ve been sold this myth our entire lives. When a star athlete is asked how they reached the mountaintop, the answer is always, “I outworked my competition.” When a championship coach is asked how his team got there, the answer is always, “We outworked our competition.” Sometimes the coach brags about the culture HE CREATED… in spite of the fact that winning is the quickest, simplest way to create a winning culture. The answer to losing is always more hard work. If you lose, you lacked the discipline, grit, and character required to win. You weren’t willing to do the work required. The Feed the Cats take… Traits of elite athletes ⤵️ 1) Typically have elite genetics 2) Avoid injuries 3) Recover well (sleep, nutrition) 4) Successfully improve athleticism (speed, strength, jump, bounce, throw) 5) Successfully improve sport-specific skills and movements. 6) Don’t subscribe to “the undisciplined pursuit of more” 7) Have a joyful mission-mindset Traits of great teams ⤵️ 1) Accumulate talent through the draft, NIL, recruitment, attraction, tradition, and/or luck. 💥 2) Stay healthy; injury-free 3) Improve the athleticism of their already superior athletes ⚡️⚡️⚡️ 4) Display an energetic and joyful approach to hard work. 5) Practice and train at a performance level. 6) Culture by intent, not default. Not just the product of winning. It’s intellectually lazy to boil it down to cliches. ⤵️

“You don't lose because you aren't fast enough. You lose because you can't repeat it.” ??? 🤔 Some people want to believe that repeat sprint ability is more important than speed. They want to tell hundreds of Sprint Based Football coaches they are wrong. People who focus their offseason training on improving strength and endurance have never witnessed the results of prioritizing speed. They don’t understand “prioritize” doesn’t mean “at the exclusion of everything else.” They don’t understand that effective football practices prepare players for the rigors of the game. They don’t understand that consistently-trained fast & explosive athletes are fit. They don’t understand that faster athletes are healthier athletes. They don’t understand capacity can be grown patiently on a foundation of speed and explosiveness. They don’t understand that you can’t maintain a speed you can’t achieve. “80% of all college football players never reach their ceiling of speed.” ~Boo Schexnayder I wonder why the NFL Combine doesn’t test 50x 40? #FTC

Got this question on IG from Rex Burkhead, thought I’d answer it here too. “Tony, love your feed the cats stuff. How would you balance this approach while still training the mental aspect of football, other sports, etc. when tired or pressure situations occur in the game when fatigued? Thanks and keep up the great work.” Rex: The FTC approach is often misunderstood as being soft. Football has operated with a military model for 100 years. Physical and mental toughness was cultivated by doing random hard things, pushing past limits, deprivation, and verbal abuse. Athletes, like soldiers, were intentionally “broken” with the intent of building them back stronger. A FTC approach maximizes energy and enthusiasm, physical and mental health, extreme athleticism, and most importantly, a love of training and practice. These traits create a different type of toughness. FTC football coaches use the word “violent” to describe their toughness. It makes sense in my mind… tired, broken athletes are not as tough as fast, healthy athletes. In addition, when fatigued, fast “unconditioned” athletes are faster than slow “conditioned” athletes.

There is a perception out there that the best coaches are found in the larger classifications & in urban areas. I believe however that the rural coaches are the MacGyver's of the coaching world & could be successful anywhere but instead choose a lifestyle that fits them & family
