Here, the new Foreign Secretary rightly says Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is “illegal”. He says no such thing about Israel’s genocide. Burnham has said it’ll be the courts who will decide on war crimes in Gaza. Yet by stating that Russia’s war is illegal, Miliband accidentally exposes the absurdity of that argument. He hasn’t waited for the courts to decide there! He speaks of the “terrible suffering” of Gaza, without naming the perpetrator - Israel. No sign of any shift in government policy here.
