It’s absurd that Britain prioritises foreign food over what we can (and do) grow on our own soil. Britain has some of the best farmland in Europe. We produce excellent wheat, potatoes, dairy, beef, lamb, apples, berries, brassicas and more. Our climate and soil are perfectly suited to a huge range of high-quality produce. Yet year after year, supermarket shelves and government trade policy tilt toward imports — often at the direct expense of British farmers. Cheap Spanish tomatoes, Dutch peppers, Polish chicken, New Zealand lamb and out-of-season fruit flown halfway around the world routinely undercut local growers. Why? Lower production costs abroad, weaker environmental and animal-welfare standards in some cases, and a retail system that chases the lowest unit price above everything else. The result: British producers face razor-thin margins, rising energy and labour costs, and the constant threat of being replaced by imports that would never meet the same rules if grown here. This is not free trade in any meaningful sense. It’s a one-way preference for distance over quality, seasonality and national resilience. Food security is treated as an afterthought until a supply shock hits. Carbon footprints from long-haul transport are waved away while British growers are lectured about sustainability. And rural communities that keep the countryside working are told to compete with subsidized or lower-standard overseas production while absorbing every new regulation. Supporting what is grown here does not mean autarky or higher prices for everything. It means fair competition: applying the same standards to imports that we demand of our own farmers, prioritising seasonal British produce in public procurement and retail, and recognising that a country that cannot feed itself is strategically weak. Preferring the imported option simply because it is slightly cheaper on the day is short-sighted policy dressed up as consumer choice.

A quarter of a million badgers were shot in England over thirteen years to control bovine TB. In a single twelve-month stretch, the testing regime slaughtered 22,934 cattle. Thirteen years of national argument, and all of it was about the smaller number. Clarkson's Farm gave one of the larger number a face. She failed a routine test last July, was pregnant with twins, was taken off her calf, and was destroyed. The bull's result came back inconclusive. Farm shut, nothing in or out for two months, because that is how long you wait before you may test again. Here is what the vet actually did to her. Clipped two patches of hair on her neck, one above the other. Measured the skin at each with a pair of callipers. Avian tuberculin into the top patch, bovine tuberculin into the bottom. Then he left, and came back seventy-two hours later, and measured the same two patches again. Take the swelling at the bovine site. Subtract the swelling at the avian site. Four millimetres or more and she is a reactor, and a reactor is destroyed. Four millimetres. The thickness of a pound coin. Notice what that test is not doing. It is not finding the bacterium. It is not looking at her lungs. It asks her immune system which tuberculosis it recognises more strongly, the cattle sort or the bird sort, and reads the answer off her neck as a lump. A cow can be riddled with it and barely reply. A cow can reply loudly and be carrying nothing at all. Her breeding changes how loudly she answers. It is essentially the instrument Koch handed the world in 1890. The target for a TB-free England is 2038. Every argument you have ever heard about bovine TB was about the animal in the hedge. Not one of them was about the pound coin.

I thought this was worth sharing: Post by Simon Young Firstly, I am no fan of Nigel Farage, or Reform. However, I can absolutely understand why, in the absence of visionary politics from the main stream parties, huge parts of the electorate have voted Reform in all areas of the UK, making them the largest party membership in the country. I was interested to listen to his statement this afternoon, and I have to say that the anger he showed regarding the media's unnecessary publication of his daughter's address and subsequent harassment was genuine, deep rooted and something that any parent would do given the circumstances. It is difficult to argue with his summary of politics in the UK currently. Westminster is filled with career politicians who have little or no experience of the real world having been cocooned within the Parliamentary bubble from early ages. Gone are the days when our Government leaders came into politics having served on the frontline of the economy by running businesses, serving in healthcare, experiencing international trade relations. Even the current Chancellor of the Exchequer lied in a pathetic attempt to show credibility and credentials. The issue of the donation to Farage was prior to the 2024 election, outside the jurisdiction and scope of Parliamentary process. If similar retrospective checks were made on all current 650 MPs, I suspect that the House of Commons would be concerningly empty! The furore about this is duplicitous hypocrisy particularly from the Labour Party whose current administration have been mired in scandal around free gifts in return for political favours on a scale previously unseen. But Farage's complaints were not exclusively reserved for Westminster and its shady contradictory machinations, but the role of the main stream media with some specific broadcasters named. Their responses after the statement merely confirmed what swathes of Farage's narrative alluded to. Sky News, for example, immediately issued a response stating that they DID visit Farage's daughter....but left when she asked them to. That's like saying the arsonist who called the fire brigade after lighting an inferno is innocent of their actions. Farage's daughter has absolutely nothing to do with any of this, Sky News should not have been there in the first place. As for The Times printing the photograph of his daughter's house, that is unforgivable. There is no way that any rational person could consider that action to have been "in the public interest". The Times knew full well what would happen, and in doing so, they have unequivocally endangered Farage's daughter's safety. Every national newspaper is as guilty as each other. Whilst it may have been The Times on this occasion, the name of every other publication could be inserted for similar incidents over the last few years. However, the most concerning comment from multiple media outlets was the ridicule that Farage is putting his "fate" into the hands of the Clacton electorate. As one extremely high profile journalist said on Live TV, "....it's laughable to think that Farage is seeking national redemption from a tiny, tiny proportion of the electorate. That's simply ridiculous." There in that very simple and straightforward sentence was exactly the huge problem that the ordinary people of the United Kingdom are facing. Was that similar rage present when just 24,927 people voted for Andy Burnham to be returned to Parliament and jettisoned into Downing Street with a fanfare, fawning acolytes and media helicopters following the Avanti West Coast train from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston? That was "democracy" at work But 21,225 people voting for Farage is "simply ridiculous" This isn't about the rights or wrongs of Nigel Farage. This isn't about the politics of the Reform Party. This is however about the underhand shady workings within Westminster zealously controlled by a handful of people and aggressively manipulated by the media. That is something that should concern every single exponent of democracy across the United Kingdom

I’ve only just finished reading the first victim testimony in this report, by a woman named Chloe, and I had to pause multiple times because I couldn’t read through my tears. To know that this has happened, and continues to happen, to hundreds of thousands of white girls, not just in the UK, but undoubtedly in all of Europe, is almost unbearable. This is not a failure of our authorities; it is the ultimate betrayal. Those responsible must pay.
