I wear high heels because I'm only 5'4" and I like to be visible in a crowd. They're so much more flattering to the feet, ankles & legs too.

I envy women who can pick something off the rack and say, "I'll take it!" I've never been able to do that—40 bust, 10 waist, and 12 hips.

I pin my dresses to canvas-covered wooden hangers in a special way to hang right. (Some hangers do terrible things to the shoulder line.)

I can't get around to perfume before 4pm. Perfumes are overpowering to the people you work with, and a little too much for daytime, I think.

Hats aren't seen around as much as they used to be. There are some prominent hat makers who, in a panic, have started to manufacture wigs.

A high skirt slit suggests sex, but not overtly, in the same way that a piece of chiffon between two bodies is far more sexy than just skin.

It's a big problem when a dress receives too many compliments. You want to wear it constantly. As a result it rarely goes to the cleaners.

One of my trademarks is shoes that match my dress. I cover them in the same fabric and then with clear plastic, so they're always spotless.

My rule: Don't buy a dress until you can afford all the right accessories and, if you can't spend your life in curlers, a hat made to match.
