So while I think it's just as important to find a woman mentor who can help you woman-to-woman and offer you EMPATHY and advice... The reality is that to progress in tech you need a male sponsor/mentor/backer. Hopefully, one day, there will be equity, and I'll delete the tweet.

Personally, I know I have survived rounds of layoffs at start-ups BECAUSE I've had a male mentor in the company. And I know women coworkers who were let go because they didn't have anyone who could advocate for them during lay-off or promotion season.

I grew up outside of DC, which meant I was spoiled in ways I didn't fully understand until I left for college. Dino bones at the Natural History Museum. Rocket ships at the Air and Space. Van Gogh hanging on a wall I could walk up to for free. These experiences educated and allowed me to dream as a kid about what's possible. This month, the House Appropriations Committee passed a bill that zeros out the Assistance for Arts Education grant program, cuts $8 billion from the @usedgov's budget, and asks museums/libraries to do more with less. We're doing this at the exact moment AI shapes work, education, and creativity. I find that timing hard to ignore. Now is the time to use your voice.
