@MsSmaraw As a teacher I much prefer face to face. We are struggling with a lack of parental support and engagement, and a big part of that I feel is parents not attending the school and meeting in person. Having parents back in this year for parents evening has really helped support this.

@MrMountstevens @TeacherTapp I interpreted it as better for those taking the course. In geography, we really struggle to finish it in 2 years and can’t spend time doing the discussion we want to. Obviously, for those that don’t take it, having an extra KS3 year is better. Tough overall.

Meant to be having my booster tomorrow. If I’m honest, I’m feeling pretty coerced by the government to do so. I would rather not, but I’m scared they will restrict my life if I don’t have it.

Actually quite excited to be back tomorrow. Whilst I like a holiday, I also like the routine of school, and I do miss the kids (well, most of them!).

@MrsBateGeog Thank you for that! I understand wanting to update, no worries! I’ve never taught the superpowers side myself, my HoD is on that one. I’m on globalisation, coasts, carbon and health/human rights. Happy to share any of those in future too.

@MissC_Geog It’s a tough year, that will probably eat into personal time, even if you try your hardest to not let it! That’s why our school, and probably others, are providing ‘work time’ for the training.

@MrJDGraham Secondary - one break duty a week (no pay). Optional paid lunch duties. Middle leaders then do a detention duty after school once per month (also unpaid).

@jessp711 @EssexPR I’m broadly in agreement, however, I do see value in testing all upon return after the summer holidays. That could help stop transmission when loads of students get back together for the first time in a while. After that point I’m happy for testing to stop

@Shirley04101935 @EssexPR Genuine question - if testing for one week in September does find cases, is it not better that they then isolate? Thankfully, contacts do not have to do so and schools can then open as normal, with a few children that have COVID returning a little later.

I was purely talking about the September testing programme, which is nothing new and is not a choice that schools have made. I intend to be in the classroom as much as possible,but spreading paranoia about a delay isn’t helpful

One of the best teaching experiences I’ve had so far today- a student with crippling anxiety that I have supported throughout lockdown came in and got her results. She cried with happiness at how good they were. Set me off too. Moments like that make all the long hours worthwhile
