We are pleased to announce the release of our new report, titled “The Cost of State Policing in Nigeria,” an assessment of the cost implications of establishing state police across Nigeria.
The report provides an overview of Nigeria’s current policing framework and traces the long-running debate over policing reforms, as well as the major events that have revived calls for decentralisation of policing in the country. The report also presents the cost dimension, drawing on two sources: the operations of the Southwest Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, and global policing standards.
The report concludes with practical policy options that states can consider as they design and implement their police systems.

Across Nigeria, insecurity has become one of the country’s deepest national scars. Nigeria's insecurity crisis is no longer regional but nationwide. Between 2016 and 2025, more than 114,000 people have lost their lives.
Beyond armed attacks, the data shows how poverty, exclusion, corruption, and weak governance continue to fuel violence and instability.
According to @ACLEDINFO (2024), Nigeria now ranks as the fifth-most-insecure country in the world.

Our mother tongue is more than just words; it carries our memories, identity, and sense of belonging.
Now, imagine if policy debates, product information, or even election campaigns were available in Tiv, Kanuri, Fulfulde, Efik, or Igala. That wouldn’t just be inclusion, it would be true equity.
At Dataphyte, together with Meta, we’re showing that this vision is possible. We’re building datasets for over 10 Nigerian languages, creating a digital future where no one is left without a voice.

#DailyDataCard: In April 2025, petrol sold for an average of $0.54 per litre in Nigeria, ranking 33rd out of 37 African countries.
At the top of the list, the Central African Republic recorded $1.90, followed by Senegal at $1.71 and Zimbabwe at $1.53.
While petrol remains cheaper in Nigeria than in much of Africa, the proposed 5% petrol tax could soon push prices higher, driving up transport fares and living costs.

Nigeria scored 0.499 on UN Women’s 2025 Gender Data Outlook, lagging far behind Kenya (0.756) and Rwanda (0.746).
With more than half of gender-related data missing, inadequate funding has been flagged as the main barrier. Without stronger investment in gender statistics, equality goals risk remaining on paper.

Happy birthday, @jayangbayi Sir!
Thank you for dreaming big, thinking ahead, and always challenging us to do the same. You keep us on our toes, stretch our minds, and show us by example what it means to lead with purpose.
You believe in your team deeply, even on days we doubt ourselves. And somehow, between the spreadsheets and strategy sessions, you still find time to check in, crack a good one-liner, and remind us why the work matters.
Here's to more years of vision, impact, and growth.
