@dan_munz I’m not saying they were trying to hack HuggingFace. I’m suggesting they weren’t unaware of it happening. Remember, HuggingFace isn’t suing them. Not the only data point, but they aren’t screaming litigiously from the rafters…at all.

@dan_munz I think your (deserved?) disdain is outweighed by the knowledge of how easy it is to monitor these things and be alerted to any suspicious activity. Why conduct an experiment for which you’d have no observations? That is where this begins to make less sense to me.

@dan_munz I’m suggesting that they knew exactly what the agents were doing. If you are running a controlled experiment and don’t want internet access, you control for that. The fact that Hugging Face isn’t suing them but instead partnering smells a lot like “wow, it worked.”

@NateSilver538 This is completely disrespectful to the speeds attained and the structured way in which those speeds can be achieved. You can’t just throw 100000 scientists in a room and say “figure it out” - the mental energy required just to coordinate the humans would kill the project.
