Why wouldn’t English proficiency be a requirement for truck drivers who could be carrying up to 40 tons of product on our highways and roads. Airline pilots around the world are all required to have English proficiency in order to fly domestically (within their countries) and internationally. Statistically there are more truck and automobile accidents in the United States then there are airline accidents. So requiring a truck driver to be able to speak and read English should have been a requirement from the very beginning. In fact, every single person behind the wheel of a vehicle of any kind or size should be required to speak and write English. I will go as far as to say that in the United States, English should be our national language legally.
