In his short controversial tenure, he has turned the Shin Bet from Israel’s (FBI equivalent) security service into a private security service, serving only the politician that got him appointed – indicted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Today, we learned that Zini has succumbed to Mrs. Sara Netanyahu’s demands (a convicted criminal herself) and agreed to provide her with Shin Bet security for the rest of her life – without any valid security reason to do so. Zini’s decision stands in opposition to the recommendations of subject matter experts, it is a gross betrayal with respect to the Israeli public, and it is a betrayal of his role. This decision raises concerns, as it could constitute a criminal violation of the law – e.g. abuse of power and breach of trust.
