Commanders and PIO are enroute to an officer-involved shooting at 8550 Park Lane. Preliminary info: Officers responded to a call in the area and at some point the suspect encountered our officer and the officer fired shots. The suspect fled the area and no officer was injured.

As a vet, but more importantly as someone who represents a veteran heavy district, I will NEVER vote to cut veteran benefits nor will I vote to prevent current service members from filing claims in the future. Today, I was put in the center of an unhinged meltdown and was told to “stop talking” because I pointed out how stupid it is to cut veterans benefits. Other Republicans AND many vet orgs to include @DAVHQ, @VFWHQ, @IAVA and @studentvets are against this bill for this very reason. The good news is, this veteran’s bill can and will be cleaned up and re-voted. So yeah, did I break away from party leadership on this to prevent cutting veteran benefits? Absolutely… and some of my colleagues disagree with me. Will a better version of this bill come to the floor? Yes. This is a part of the process.

The VA bill this Thursday needs serious changes. I will be signing the discharge petition to bring the Major Richard Star Act to the floor that will ensure it is voted on as a stand alone bill. All our veterans who served should be fully eligible for disability pay and we should not be offsetting some disabilities to pay for others. We need to find a way where all our veterans are fully taken care of.

Rest in Peace, Lieutenant Colonel Brandon Shah 🇺🇸 Lt. Col. Shah was shot and killed during a terror attack on the campus in Virginia this morning. The gunman, now identified as a convicted ISIS supporter released from prison early, was neutralized by a ROTC student armed with a knife before being able to continue on his rampage. Shah was a Professor of Military Science and was assigned as the leader of Old Dominion University’s ROTC program. He was also a veteran of several military operations, to include Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Atlantic Resolve. Sha received a Bachelor of Science from ODU in 2007, an MBA from the University of Georgia in 2018, and a MS in Engineering Management from the University of Kansas in 2019, according to the Old Dominion University Alumni Association.
