Healthcare for all requires government to pay all intern doctors. They provide quality but cheap helathcare services. Not everybody has money to pay in private health facilities. I am afraid that we are putting the life of Ugandans at risk by not paying interns. Bad policies should be outrightly rejected by well meaning Ugandans especially the people's representatives, the MPs.

Yesterday, I visited the paediatrics ward where a friend's son had been admitted with meningitis. A life threatening condition in children What I witnessed was heartbreaking. The ward was extremely understaffed. There were only three nurses, one consultant, and one Senior House Officer, all struggling to save lives. Despite their dedication, they simply could not complete even 40% of the work in real time yet a sick body can't wait for this long, there is a time when intervention or treatment will be useless, refractory etc due to the delays to receive it, and you die due to the delay not just the disease Why? Because there were close to 100 patients on the ward, and the overwhelming majority were critically ill. A ward round alone involves examining patients, taking histories, reviewing treatment plans, and making clinical decisions. After that comes implementation: drawing blood and other samples, delivering them to the laboratory, arranging imaging and other investigations, transferring patients to different units and bringing them back, following up laboratory results, interpreting them, adjusting treatment plans, monitoring critically ill patients every three hours, recording vital signs, administering medications, and so much more. The workload is endless. I saw nurses whose hearts were still full of compassion, gratitude, and commitment to serve the babies and save their life . But their bodies were exhausted. Evening was approaching, yet they still had a mountain of work ahead of them. About 50% undone because the response people were protesting Non-payment by govt.. What was the missing link? The intern doctors were not there. The ward's full-time foot soldiers, were absent. Why? Because they are protesting discrimination by government. Government does not want to pay them for their hard labour. It would rather pay MP billions than treating voters and their vulnerability... Intern doctors have always carried the slogan, "Here to serve the nation." But service alone cannot sustain a health system. Uganda needs well-facilitated, well-equipped intern doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dental surgeons—not just words of encouragement. They need fair and timely remuneration. Dear Hon. Dear leaders and members of @TheUMAofficial . On our nationwide “Expose the Corrupt” inspection tour, it is one Government on the move. We are currently conducting “Expose the Corrupt” inspections together with the Minister of State for Health, officials from the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Office of the President, State House Legal, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), local leaders, Area Members of Parliament, LC V Chairpersons, and other government agencies. Our common objective is to strengthen service delivery, promote accountability, eliminate corruption in public institutions, and ensure that public resources serve the people for whom they are intended. Exposing patients should not happen again, and privacy must be fully respected and protected. Professional associations should continue to educate their members and reinforce the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. To the Medical Professionals Association: please work closely with your members to ensure that medicines meant for the public are not misused or stolen, and that patients in government hospitals are not subjected to illegal charges. Where concerns arise, we encourage timely corrective action through established professional and legal processes to uphold accountability and restore trust. When we issued a similar message to the Engineers’ Professional Association, the results were encouraging. So far, four district engineers have appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court, and many engineers in the districts we have inspected have significantly improved their performance and compliance. Professional associations play a critical role in guiding, educating, and supporting their members to uphold ethical standards, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of their duties. Together, we can restore public confidence and ensure that government services are delivered with integrity. The health of Ugandans is not negotiable. Today we walked peacefully to the Ministry of Health, only to be met with a heavy deployment of military police. After the media was ordered to leave the scene, several of our fellow intern doctors were beaten and many of them injured. We condemn this response in the strongest terms. Such actions have no place in a country that values dialogue and the welfare of its health workers. We call on the Ministry of Health to urgently engage with us and provide a clear, immediate response to our concerns. We are ready to serve Ugandans with dedication , but we cannot afford to work for free.
