When autonomous driving leaves you speechless. Sakolsky visited KargoBot in Ordos to experience self-driving technology firsthand. “I’ve got to take a picture — otherwise no one will believe me.” From surprise to disbelief, his reactions quickly turned into a whole set of meme-worthy moments.

From sand to green — 40 years in the making. When Sakolsky returned to the Mu Us Sandy Land in Ordos, he saw a landscape transformed by decades of tree planting. “The Yin family has spent 40 years doing what once seemed impossible. To me, that’s heroic.” Where sand once stretched across the horizon, green now takes its place. This is what persistence looks like.

On the afternoon of August 24, Sakolsky returned to Yin Yuzhen's home to see that very first dwelling. What was once a "hole" in the sand has been replaced by a proper brick house — a living testament to decades of grit and determination. Two visits. Two worlds. One desert, reborn.

The friendship between Sakolsky and Yin Yuzhen has spanned 26 years. In 1999, American friend Sikorsky donated $5,000 to support her desertification-control efforts. Yin kept just $1 and used the rest to buy more than 50,000 seedlings, turning the desert into a green oasis. On August 23, 2026, they reunited in Ordos. Her son, Bai Guocai, captured this touching moment. We young people will continue to protect this green land.
