Why is "mental health" such an emotionally charged concept for women? More importantly, what do women mean when they say "mental health?" I'll explain, and it's grim. Mental health represents an external locus of control. This is the first, critical idea. We either have an internal locus of control (I am in charge of my fate) or an external (something other than me is in charge of my fate). In Western, Christian society, we normally teach an internal locus of control. In leftism (or Islam, and a few other cultures), they teach an external locus. What is that external locus of control? Depends on the culture. Rousseau thought it was society. Marx thought it was class/economics. In Islam, it's Shaitan (the devil), the lower soul, bad company, or similar. For modern women, it's "mental health." They've created a metaphysics in which mental health is separate from the will that is the self. Mental health is the external cause and it's controlled by medication and "wellness" activities. If they don't have appropriate medication and wellness, "mental health" takes control. It's easy to understand if you just replace "mental health" with "the devil." All it means is "something outside of me made me misbehave." The second critical idea is that the regulating authority for women has, historically, been men. More precisely, masculine authority, but roughly speaking it's men (masculine authority includes faith in God as well). Men keep women safe, in part by keeping them under control. They mitigate women's worst impulses and save them from themselves. Now antidepressants do that. The result is the modern formulation: 1. Mental health is the external cause of misbehavior/corruption. 2. Antidepressants replace masculine authority, including God, as the thing that keeps women "safe" from that external cause of their corruption. And that is why women talk about so-called mental health in such an emotionally and politically charged manner. It is vitally important to understand that "mental health" is a sacred idol because it both explains and protects. All of the complexities of a relationship with God and man are eliminated. It's all reduced to "mental health," and anyone who threatens or is callous to that is doing the equivalent of insulting a woman's husband, family, and her faith. It's among the worst things you can do. There is such a thing as "mental health" but it would be more precisely understood as "brain disease." Any other concept is usually just what I've described: a comforting external force that explains bad behavior but which can be controlled by magic pills and "wellness."
