The better one is: what is the least expensive reliable way to complete this task, and when is escalation worth it? Budget is becoming part of the architecture. None of this removes demand for frontier intelligence. Some work will justify frontier pricing.
The best AI model available to me, Anthropic's Fable 5, is pricing itself out of my daily work. More than $60 in one extended working day. By the end of it, I was actively avoiding the model. Not because it got worse. Because every conversation carried a visible price.
7/7 The model is becoming a replaceable component. The strategic asset is the operating layer around it: context, evaluation, governance, security, routing, continuity. Those who design that layer now - and test it before an incident - will outlast those just buying AI seats.
