Here’s the reality: 1️⃣ Admissions committees evaluate research potential, not life history Your SOP should show that you: •Identify a specific, researchable problem within your field. •Understand the current state of the literature and its limitations. •Have the technical skills and methodological maturity to approach that problem independently. •Can articulate a logical research trajectory aligned with the program’s faculty and resources. Listing every experience or achievement without connecting it to these points makes your application forgettable. 2️⃣ Vagueness is fatal Phrases like “I am passionate about biology” or “I want to study AI in healthcare” are invisible among hundreds of applicants. ✅ Instead, be precise: •Specify the research gap you want to address. •Demonstrate methodological competence — e.g., statistical modeling, CRISPR assays, network simulations, qualitative coding frameworks. •Connect prior work to your next steps, showing intellectual evolution. •Align your project with specific faculty research or program clusters.
