★★☆☆☆ Earth Came for a brief 300-year vacation. Honestly, I’d seen pretty much everything by year 120. Scenery is excellent and biodiversity is impressive, but the dominant species is loud, territorial, and inexplicably obsessed with imaginary lines on maps. Weather is wildly inconsistent. Oceans are lovely but mostly unusable. Food was interesting, but concerning: the locals strongly prefer that you consume other sentient species, while completely ignoring the fact that there are perfectly delicious trees, bushes, and non-screaming plant options literally everywhere. Locals insist every generation is living through “unprecedented times.” It gets old. Two stars, only because sunsets are genuinely spectacular and they have something called “dogs”. It’s only 1450 light-years away, but not worth going out of your way. If you do want to visit, be aware that the Vogons are planning an intergalactic highway construction project for a hyperspace express route.

Different people recover through different combinations of time, therapy, medication, exercise, relationships, faith, and purpose. The most important task is identifying those at risk of serious harm, or self neglect, and getting them appropriate care.

At the beginning of 2026, Facebook quietly decided to push political content into our feeds again unless we tell it not to. I enjoy genuine political discussion about principles, policy, goals and ideas, regardless of the opinions of those I’m discussing them with. What I have no interest in is rage bait, straw-man arguments, pejorative caricatures and defamatory nonsense masquerading as debate. Lately my feed has been overwhelmed with that sort of material, almost entirely from the American political left and surprisingly little from the American political right. Your experience may differ politically, but the underlying problem is the same: the algorithm has decided that I am either interested in this material or likely to engage with it. Blocking pages wasn’t solving the problem because Facebook simply found me more. The fix, at least for me, was to go to Settings → Content Preferences → Political Content and turn political recommendations off (or down, depending on your version of Facebook). I’d rather choose my political discussions than have an algorithm choose them for me.
