Michael Langlinais on FB wrote the following… First thing, I'm not Jewish. Second thing, I didn't grow up with many Jewish people in S. Louisiana, but I've never had any issues, and Jewish people have always been nice to me. I give this as background. My wife would have a similar story. We are in our 70s, and products of post-WWII America. In about 1994, my wife - who had a Secretarial Service in the days before everyone had computers - got a job from a Jewish New Orleans Attorney, who was working on what would become a Holocaust Memorial in the city. The job was transcribing the oral interviews of elderly Holocaust Survivors, who'd been children, teens, or very early adulthood during the period. It was a very large job - and heartbreaking for her. On occassion, she broke down over the horrific things these people - mostly women - had endured. I helped transcribe some of it, but she did the bulk. The inhumanity was stunning. When we finished this job, we discussed it a number of times during the period, and my (ever optimistic) view was that, "this was horrible, and almost unbelievable, but at least we know it will never happen again." That was then. Now, I have much less confidence in my statements. It really saddens me to see what politics has become, how many knuckleheads seem to believe the Holocaust never happened, and the statements of some people that are anti-Israel, or more broadly anti-jewish. I just don't get it. I wish all of you the best, and know that you're seeing a lot of nasty stuff from a tiny minority. The job for the rest of us is to make sure that this minority never gains any traction, and eventually goes extinct. Let me know how I can help with that goal.
