"my customers want to pay but they don't have international credit cards. can you support pix?" that's the thing about building a global payments platform. credit cards feel universal until you realize they're not. in brazil, pix is how people move money. instant bank transfers. 150+ million users. it's not an alternative payment method there. it's THE payment method. so we built it. Credit based billing is finally here in @dodopayments ⚡️ If you are building AI, APIs, infra, or anything usage-heavy, you have seen this movie: per-seat feels unfair, pure usage feels unpredictable, and “limits” turn into support tickets. So we shipped a clean middle ground: sell + manage credits. Now you can define credits as: → Custom units (tokens, API calls, compute hours, messages) with configurable precision → Fiat credits (USD/EUR style prepaid balances) Then attach those credits to subscriptions, one-time purchases, or usage-based billing. Credits re-issue every cycle for subscriptions, and meters can automatically deduct in real time as usage events come in. The part that makes this production-ready: → Rollover + expiration controls (so unused credits can carry forward or expire) → Overage handling (forgive, bill, or carry deficit) when customers run out mid-cycle → Full credit ledger with before/after balances and audit trail → Webhooks for every lifecycle change like added, deducted, expired, rolled over, overage charged, low balance so your app stays in sync → Manual credit and debit adjustments via dashboard or API when you need to do support, promos, or corrections This is the pricing model behind the best AI products. Subscription upgrades sound simple until payments fail. Earlier, a plan change could go through even if the payment did not. That leads to awkward situations: users on a higher plan, but no successful charge. @dodopayments latest release, v1.81.0, introduces the on_payment_failure flag for subscription updates. You now control whether a plan change should apply only after a successful payment. Fewer edge cases. Cleaner billing logic. Less support pain. Billing should behave the way your business expects.
